WHAT is SwimAmerica? SwimAmerica is a program of swim instruction for people of any age. At its core is a station methodology of teaching and learning – a series of specific skills goals that individuals need to master one after the other – to achieve swim competency and ensure safety in and around the water. The program is designed so that learners can move forward at their own pace.

Station 1 – Air Exchange 

Skills to be Learned 

1. Gradual water adaptation: 

a. Movement in the water 

b. Breath holding and release 

c. Submersion of face 

d. Blowing bubbles 

2. Wall bobs with bubbles and air exchange 

3. Introduce front float WATER SAFETY “Grab the wall, not a person!” 

4. Entry and exit from a sitting position on the wall 

2. Instructor assisted rollover

Recommended for class:

• swim suit
• towel
• Goggles highly recommended depending on age and coordination, to be practiced and tested in the shower prior to the first day
• Rashguard shirt or wet suit top highly recommended if the student easily gets cold

Instructors are trained and supervised by the Head Coach of the Lakers Aquatic Club, Paul Kraft. Paul has decades of experience in teaching swimming from learn to swim, to USA swimming national qualifiers. He is a certified 6-12 science and mathematics teacher. Paul grew up living and breathing Lake Saint Clair and is happy to be returning to help his home town team.
