Day 1: This morning we will meet our tour guide and professional driver as we embark to Snowshoe Resort in West Virginia. At 4,848’ elevation, Snowshoe Mountain sits atop one of the highest points in West Virginia's Allegheny Mountains. From this perch, we overlook unmatched wilderness adventure in all directions. We’re a stone’s throw from five state parks, one national and two state forests.

Day 2: After our included breakfast this morning we board the Greenbrier Express. We will depart from the restored, historically important town of Cass and closely follow the clear, free-flowing Greenbrier River to the small mountain village of Durbin. The ride upriver to Durbin passes through a secluded wilderness portion of the 950,000-acre Monongahela National Forest featuring beautiful scenes of forested mountains at each turn of the river. Sightings of Deer, River Otters, and Black Bear along with a wide variety of Eagles, Hawks, Ospreys, and other different species of aquatic birds are common. After an included lunch in Durbin we will continue our train trip back to Cass before a scenic drive back to our resort where we will enjoy an included dinner

Day 3: Another day of great adventure begins as we motor north into the Alleghenies. We will first head to the Green Bank Observatory. We’ll get up close with radio telescopes and learn about history, science, and technology of radio astronomy while enjoy the amazing fall views. Our next destination is the townsite of Cass. It looks much today as it did in its heyday as a company logging town. Restored company houses line the hillside. With a stop at the Historical Museum you’ll pick up a box lunch at the Company Store, and then board the Cass Scenic Railroad steam locomotive and pull out of the depot. This was a logging route with grades as steep as 11%, you’ll climb through deep forest with a beauty as old as the hills and then suddenly you will break out above the timber and enjoy a view of West Virginia that is beyond words. There is a point during the climb that if you pay attention you will notice that we enter a completely different ecosystem because of the change in the trees flowers and atmosphere. The train will take us to Bald Knob, the third highest peak in West Virginia. Dinner tonight is included at the resort followed by a show by a local musical entertainer for our enjoyment.

Day 4: This morning we depart for White Sulphur Springs, WV for a visit the Greenbrier Bunker, a most unusual history tour. You will visit The Greenbrier’s Cold War Bunker, built by the Eisenhower Administration. It was a Fall Out Shelter for Congress in the event of a Nuclear Attack. This secret facility existed for 30 years, in plain sight, yet hidden from both hotel employees and guests. It’s a fascinating story and you will learn how the pantries were stocked and replenished with fresh produce and supplies. At any moment there was enough fresh water and food here to support the entire House & Senate for 60 days. Next we will enjoy breathtaking views from the rim of the New River Gorge as we enjoy our included lunch. Our day continues with a ranger guided walk in the New River Gorge National Park. We continue our scenic discovery as we visit two of West Virginia’s most beautiful waterfalls before checking into our hotel for the evening.

Day 5: Today we will work our way home with heavenly memories of the West Virginia mountains and rails.
